How does a Li-ion battery differ from a lead-acid battery?

Compared to lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries are more energy-efficient, space-saving, safer and deliver twice as much energy with the same construction volume. Another advantage is their charging capability: lithium-ion batteries can be temporarily charged in any state of charge. On average, about 60 minutes of charging time is enough to temporarily charge about 60 per cent of the battery's capacity - depending on the charger used and the ambient temperature. In addition, unlike lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries are maintenance-free and have a service life that is about twice as long. 

For which applications are lithium-ion batteries useful?

Lithium-ion batteries score particularly well wherever high battery performance (without battery replacement) is required in multi-shift operation and where short (intermediate) charging cycles must suffice to recharge the battery. Lithium-ion batteries are the perfect solution for all warehouse and production environments where space is limited and safety requirements are high. Chargers can be placed in a decentralised and space-saving manner - without any battery changing rooms and associated accessories.

How long does a Li-ion battery last?

Lithium-ion batteries last at least twice as long as lead-acid batteries. STILL lithium-ion batteries are designed for 1,500 to 4,000 full charge cycles - depending on the model, battery size and capacity.

How long can a Li-ion battery be used at a stretch?

Thanks to the intermediate charging option, lithium-ion batteries are ideally suited for multi-shift operation. The duration of use depends mainly on three factors: Battery capacity, intensity of work use and ambient temperature. In general, it can be said that depending on the battery size and charger, around 60 minutes of charging time is sufficient to reach up to 60 per cent charging capacity - and that entirely without any loss of performance or impairment of the battery life. This means that changing batteries between shifts is a thing of the past - with STILL lithium-ion batteries and the right charger, even 24/7 shifts are possible with just one battery. 

How do Li-ion batteries need to be charged?

Lithium-ion batteries can remain in the industrial truck for charging. All you need is a suitable charger and a corresponding charging plug. The STILL Onboard Charger is even more flexible: the built-in charger enables decentralised charging and intermediate charging at "normal" sockets - the ideal solution for changing locations, flexible deployment planning and particularly compact hall layouts.

Does the use of Li-ion technology increase power consumption?

The use of lithium-ion technology changes the charging behaviour - and thus also the power consumption. The batteries can be charged and recharged more frequently, faster and in shorter cycles. In order to avoid expensive peak loads, the smart STILL battery and charging management system with the STILL Smart Energy Unit can constantly provide a predefined amount of energy per charger for the charging process across all devices at all times. Networked, simple and energy-saving.

In what temperature range can Li-ion batteries be used?

Lithium-ion batteries are very robust and can be used in a wide temperature range. The STILL Li-Ion batteries provide rated performance between 0°C and +45°C. Thanks to optional low-temperature protection for the batteries, a range of use down to -28°C is possible.
